High Tech Middle North County is a project-based middle school, which means students gain knowledge though a hands on projects, instead of learning from a text book. There are two "teams" per grade. One team consists of two teachers (plus the arts teacher) and about 60 students. The students are divided into two classes however the teachers wish and rotate through those teachers instead of mixing students up for every period, so the students stay with each other for however many class periods the teachers wish.
School begins at 8:50 and ends at 3:15, during which there are five 55-minute class periods, one 45-minute elective period, 15 minutes for break, 30 minutes for lunch, and 20 minutes for advisory.
Advisory is a mix of all grades, with about 20-30 students who stay with the same advisor (who is any of the teachers) for all three years. Once a year each advisory does something for community service day, such as cleaning the beach, making toys for the animal shelter, or reading to kinder gardeners.
There are several different electives to choose from for the last 45 minutes of the day. Each teacher typically teaches on Monday-Friday and one Tuesday-Thursday elective of their design, whether it be Young Authors & Publishers, LARP, Yearbook, etc...
